For those who are not familiar with this particular book, here is a short description from Tony Riches’ blog, The Writing Desk:

England 1422: Owen Tudor, a Welsh servant, waits in Windsor Castle to meet his new mistress, the beautiful and lonely Queen Catherine of Valois, widow of the warrior king, Henry V. Her infant son is crowned King of England and France, and while the country simmers on the brink of civil war, Owen becomes her protector.

They fall in love, risking Owen’s life and Queen Catherine’s reputation—but how do they found the dynasty which changes British history – the Tudors?

This is the first historical novel to fully explore the amazing life of Owen Tudor, grandfather of King Henry VII and the great-grandfather of King Henry VIII. Set against a background of the conflict between the Houses of Lancaster and York, which develops into what have become known as the Wars of the Roses, Owen’s story deserves to be told.

Would love to read this ! I listen to the podcast. I would say my favourite person during the wars of the roses would be Margaret Beaufort. Would love to know much more .

  2. I have it on my Kindle as a sample, but I need to finish others before getting started on this one. Sometimes having the physical book makes me read faster. Strange, right?

As for my favourite person, I would have to say Elizabeth of York or her mother, Elizabeth Woodville. They both endured so many hardships, name calling, battles, and all around drama and came out stronger and on top.

I have always followed the women of history but I am interested in learning more about the men and Owen interests me..
I don’t know if I have a favourite as all are interesting for different reasons but Elizabeth Woodville because she was a commer and Margaret Beaufort who was an incredibly strong woman from such a young age..

    Im intrigued!
I dont know if I can name “just one” Margaret Poole, such an interesting tale. Anne Neville, used by her father, yet quite the apple that didnt fall far from her fathers tree, and Elizabeth Woodville, so cunning, and also the grandmother of Henry VIII. (Who I am indeed obsessed with).

Hi. My favourite person is Richard III and Jasper Tudor. Since I am reading more about this time, I really like him, and fascinating character for me Richard. Jasper I really like since The Red Queen. I admire how he was there for Henry and how he believe in his rights.

I am just starting with the wars of the roses, so I am only a little familiar with Henry the VII. But knowing Owen went from being a servant to husband of a queen makes him my favorite for that reason.
